The Child Care Collection, in partnership with the Department of Science Education at California State University, Long Beach, is now one of 20 "Head Start on Science" training and dissemination centers across the US. We offer training to early childhood professionals to help them become more capable, comfortable, confident, and enthusiastic about increasing their own and children's and families' "sense of wonder" about the world of science.
In 2002, training took place on five Saturdays from January through May. Participants submitted portfolios containing pictures and reports of the science activities that they carried out in their classrooms over the course of the five months. Some of the portfolio entries will be posted here.
Head Start on Science training is available to groups of five or more. The fee for five full days of training is $190 per person. Each participant receives a Teachers' Guide and enough science equipment to set up a Science Center in his or her classroom at the end of the training. The Teachers' Guide contains more than 100 science activity ideas, including suggestions for ways to involve families.
Contact us if your site or agency would like to take advantage of this training opportunity. If more than five people are interested, we can set up a schedule that will fit your needs. Please call or email us if you need additional information.
